Celeste Abjornson, Ph.D. is the Director of Scientific Affairs for Synthes Spine. Synthes, USA is a worldwide leader in orthopaedic devices and surgical instrumentation and is headquartered in West Chester, PA. In her role, she is responsible for the development and implementation of pre-clinical research in support of product development and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines and the scientific evaluation of clinical trials. As Synthes Spine is focusing on non-fusion technologies that are revolutionary in spine surgery, many of the basic research concepts have never been tested and are not well understood. In coordination with premier institutions and universities, she has spent the last four years developing and testing the fundamental questions of spine biomechanics to offer guidance in the clinical application of these novel devices. During that time, Synthes Spine has also conducted three prospective, randomized clinical trials for FDA approval. Prior to coming to Synthes Spine in 2003, she was the Director of Spine Research at the Hospital for Special Surgery – Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, New York. |
